The Workaway Is Working!

Well, it’s been about a week since we started our adventure at Lei Chambris.  Pamela has been a wonderful host and we have hopefully made progress she is excited about.  The first two days we spent reclaiming the garden.  John and I shoveled, raked, weeded, and mowed our way through the winter’s overgrowth, preparing the soil for a vegetable garden, an herb garden, and a circular area she fills every year with wildflowers.  The project we’re working on now, with our new friend Kirstin, is prepping and painting the windows and doors of two of the buildings.  This job is much more difficult and time-consuming, so we aren’t feeling as accomplished as we did with the garden, but we are persevering!  Pamela has been providing lots of excellent meals and conversation in between the work, and we’ve even cooked a few meals at the cottage with Kirstin.  The past two days have been rainy and cold, so we’re pretending to be old-timers and heating the cottage with a wood-burning stove each night.  I had forgotten how much I love to build a fire.
